Lamanai is one of the most impressive Mayan sites in Belize, located deep in the jungle along the banks of the New River. It’s famous for the high temples, exotic wildlife, and the Mask Temple with enormous stone faces on the pyramid.
The majority of people visiting the site come by water, which is as enjoyable as the experience of the ruins, as you might be able to spot birds, crocodiles, and howler monkeys. It is also possible to visit the site on a day trip from Belize City, Orange Walk, as well as other places like San Pedro.
