One of the most iconic fitness challenges in Hawaii is the Koko Head hike in Oahu. This particular steep trail was meant to take hikers up the side of a dormant crater along an old military railway made up of 1,048 steps. Though only 1.6 miles, round-trip, it is considered a challenging and rewarding climb due to the elevation gain. Once reaching the summit, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of Hawaii Kai, Hanauma Bay, and the interior of this crater. The trail is safe if proper caution is taken, and sunrise or sunset are the most popular times to do the hike. This is a perfect walk for locals and visitors who want a quick adventure with big views.
