Huchuy Picchu (“little mountain”) is a newer, easier hike at Machu Picchu, offering incredible views of the citadel and surrounding mountains. The trail is about 30–45 minutes round trip with a 70-meter (220 ft) elevation gain, making it accessible for most hikers.

What to Expect:

Moderate incline along a 15th-century Inca stone staircase.

Some steep edges, but generally safe with handholds.

The summit at 2,497 meters (8,192 ft) provides unique views of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu.

Entry time slots control trail access; 25 tickets per slot.

No guide required, but one can be hired at the entrance.

Best Time to Hike:

Dry season: May–October.

Late morning offers clearer views after the morning mist.

Huchuy Picchu is perfect if Huayna Picchu is fully booked or if you want a shorter, easier alternative. Nearby trails include Machu Picchu Mountain, the Inca Trail, and the Sun Gate for additional adventures.
