The Breckenridge Troll Hike in Colorado is a short, easy trail leading to Isak Heartstone, a 15-foot wooden troll created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Perfect for families, photographers, and art lovers, the trail is less than five minutes from the parking area and surrounded by beautiful pine forests.
Trail & Hike: The Trollstigen Trail is flat and easy, suitable for kids, strollers, and casual walkers. It’s a one-way loop, but you can continue onto the Illinois Creek Trail if you wish.
Location & Directions: The troll is located at the Illinois Creek Trailhead, about 5 minutes from Breckenridge town center. Limited parking is available at the trailhead; additional options include the gondola lots or free ride buses.
History & Fun Facts: Built in 2018 for the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts, Isak Heartstone was relocated to his current home in 2019. He is made from recycled wood and is one of nearly 50 trolls Thomas Dambo has created worldwide.
Hours & Fees: The hike is open 24/7 and free to visit, with no entrance fee. Winter visits are possible, but watch out for ice or mud.
