Zion National Park, Utah’s first and oldest national park, is known for its deep cliffs, slot canyons, and spectacular vistas. Among our selections for the 16 greatest hikes are such legendary trails as Angels Landing Trail, Observation Point Trail, and The Narrows, as well as shorter and more accessible ones like Pa’rus Trail and Canyon Overlook Trail.

Trails range from easy walks along the Virgin River to more challenging hikes involving chain handholds and switchbacks. Permits are required for popular hikes such as Angels Landing, while trails such as Riverside Walk and Timber Creek Overlook are suitable for families and novices. Most trails offer vistas of Zion Canyon, rock formations, and adventure experiences in nearby slot canyons.

Distances vary from 0.2 miles (Court of the Patriarchs) to 16 miles (The Narrows full hike) and have varied elevations from very little to over 1,500 feet. Hiking access is via the town of Springdale in Utah, with several trails in the Kolob Canyons area for those seeking more solitude.
