Castle De Haar, in Haarzuilens near Utrecht, is the largest castle in the Netherlands. Although the original building was medieval, having been rebuilt in the 19th century, it is a true marvel of architecture and contains no less than 200 opulent rooms and extensive flower and water gardens with roaming deer. Interior tours of the château reveal fabulous sculptures and stunning stained glass windows. The surrounding park is also accessible. The castle holds several events throughout the year, including fantasy fairs and Christmas markets. Whether by driving yourself or taking public transportation, or even on a day tour from Amsterdam or Utrecht, Castle De Haar is a fantastic day trip if you want to see all things Dutch.
